    I read 1984 last summer for the first time in many years, since it was assigned in high school. While I still think it should be assigned to high school students, it should definitely be read by adults. One of the great 20th century novels.

    Orwell is a complex person to figure out. He remained a socialist, despite accurately depicting the totalitarian tendencies of the radical socialists. Even in this letter, which was written before the novel, he seemed to believe that American and English socialists could plan economies without becoming totalitarian, but we see now that that has not been the case.

    Good to see the group still going after nearly a year absent. I hope all is well.
